History shows us that God shapes nations through seasons of revival. These divine visitations are not rare or random, they are deliberate moves of God in response to hungry hearts crying out for change. Again and again, prayer, obedience, and the power of the Spirit have broken into ordinary places and changed the course of entire regions. When the Moravians gathered at Herrnhut in 1727, they weren’t trying to start a movement. Yet one encounter with the Holy Spirit at a communion service set off 100 years of continuous prayer and global missions. Their faith and unity helped spark the ministry of John Wesley, whose preaching, along with that of George Whitefield and Jonathan Edwards, ignited the First Great Awakening (1730s–1740s). Decades later, their revival legacy helped prepare the way for the the Second Great Awakening. (1800 - 1840s) Cane Ridge Revival, where thousands gathered in the Cane Ridge Kentucky forrests and encountered God so powerfully that denominational lines dissolved. People fell under conviction, wept, trembled, shouted, and rejoiced. There was no plan, just the unmistakable sense that heaven had touched earth. And then in 1906, God moved again at 312 Azusa Street in Los Angeles. A small group of believers, led by William J. Seymour, pressed into prayer and holiness until the glory of God came down. Tongues, healing, deliverance, and unity marked the meetings. Barriers of race, class, and denomination melted in the presence of Almighty God. From that outpouring, the Pentecostal movement spread to the nations. These revivals were not born in comfort. They came during times of darkness, apathy, and spiritual dryness. And each time, they changed not only individuals, but the direction of entire regions and nations. Political systems shifted. Social norms were challenged. Mission movements exploded. And above all, Jesus was glorified. In the many revival meetings that my wife and I have done over the past 35 years in 172 US Cities and 45 International cities, we have seen first hand, how God’s transforming presence touched the lives of countless thousands. We have held meetings that were supposed to last three days, but continued for weeks, two meetings a day. No advertising. No hype, just hunger and thirst, and God responded. People were healed, filled with joy, set free from bondage, marriages restored, Pastors receiving a fresh touch from God with new vision and zeal. What happened in past generations must happen and will happen again. This web site, The Shaping of Nations, traces those sovereign moves of God. It is not just a history lesson. It is a reminder and a call to expect and believe again for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that changes everything. Revival is not a side effect of special meetings but God’s direction for man’s reception. Let these stories stir your heart, because the same God who moved at Cane Ridge, Azusa Street, and Herrnhut, is still looking for a people who will cry out, “Lord, come visit me and fill me to overflowing so that I can say “here am I Lord, send me”
